We made our feelings known re. the roads and parking situation when one of the main men from the Council came down to see us after several requests. We certainly gave him a hard time and pinned him to the spot on the fewer parking spaces in the High st,  the ridiculous electric car spaces, which are left empty all the time , the loading bays, which are used probably an hour a day if that, and are left empty for the rest of the day and the disabled spaces, none of which are being used , obviously the disabled spaces are realistic and need to be there , but maybe not so many,  oh and the space opposite our Salon where you can get one and a half cars?  Well you wouldn’t believe it ! Why oh why didn’t they make it another 2 metres longer, then we could have had 2 cars there instead of one ! Now we have 2 metres extra doing nothing,  what were these airheads thinking of or had they been smoking something when they agreed it !  Apparently they have agreed to take away one of the electric car spaces Hoorah, they obviously realise they have made a really stupid mistake , but why one ? surely they should take the two away and put them in Tescos car park,  which is so big it’s always half empty, not unlike the Planners brains,  don’t you think that would make more sense ?  But of course we are not dealing with proper people , these species are unique from the planet Moron, who probably have never set foot inside Purley town centre and have no idea of the real problems most of the businesses face. Oh and I notice our business rates went up from April which negates the £140 rebate we got for the interruptions we faced for eighteen months during the ballsups they made with the  so called Road rejuvenation scheme . It just might have been a good idea if they asked us what we think !

Difficult decision this month so many great guys but there’s always next month, this month after much deliberation,  Natalie Walker at Caterham pipped it for us. Natalie trained with us initially then became disillutioned with the trade and left, but always missed the trade, two years later and with a different mindset she came back knowing what she needed to do to become successful and proved it.

Natalie has worked hard over last year and has shown that she knows what to do now to be on top of the game , great team member, great Customer service, excellent hairdressing skills thats what keeps her regular Clients coming back to her, looking at the stats Natalie had the most regular Clients coming back to her than everybody else and she put her prices up ! It tells us that she knows what  her Clients want , great overall service , never taking anyone for granted, and good percentage colour work, keep doing it Natalie, well done you went the extra mile !  Oh and thanks for cashing up for us when needed.

Look out for our completely new Smoothing/ Straightening service which has brilliant results and more safeguards than most of the others on the market I will keep you posted ! It should be with us in a couple of weeks with huge discounts on your first booking.

Ron Noades made some very valid comments on the lack of forsight from the council especially regarding parking, there are less parking spaces on the High Street than before the changes and in their wisdom they decided to put two bays for electric vehicles (how many of you have an electric car or even seen one) and then opposite they have two bays for loading! Now we don’t know whether we can park in these bays because THEY haven’t told us, do you think they are doing this on purpose to get more revenue? So, anyway, I intend to park there at every opportunity to see whether they issue me with a ticket whereupon I will go to court, if they persue it, and fight it vigorously, because it is just ridiculous in these times to persecute us shopkeepers even more than they have already.

Ah but maybe there is an ulterior motive! Perhaps they really want to kill off what little business there is in Purley Town then they can turn all the retail shops into residential council property to fill them with the ever increasing masses. THINK ABOUT IT !!

New Beginnings

In September 11 we put our year long plan into action and completely refurbished the entire shoptront and facia at our Caterham Salon, it was not before time as the old one had certainly had seen better days, quaint as it was, probably circa 19th century, it had to come out, with its little Victorian windows it resembled something out of a Dickens novel, a bit like the Partners, anyway the results were amazing and the feedback from Clients and locals was very positive. Robert and myself designed it in keeping with our Purley Salon and it seems to fit in well with the general aura of the Caterham Valley shops. The works were carried out by local craftsmen, as we like to encourage new business in the area, and the two young Joiners were brilliant and completed it over one weekend .

This year we are intending to do the same with our landmark Salon at 2, High St. Purley , this is a much bigger and challenging project as the shopfront has three facias being on the corner of the high st. and Whytecliffe rd., now that the contractors have finished the pavement areas around Purley , we are hoping to complete this by the end of July all being well. We have been in Purley at the same site for over 35 years and had three brand new shopfronts the weather on the corner were we are situated is very punishing so its sorely needed. Robert and I never sit still as there is always something that needs replacing or refurbishing  through general wear and tear, again its a bit like ourselves but we both still cherish the challenge as in business if you sit still the waves will wash over you !
